Have you ever come across a crafty idea that is so fantastic you immediately start planning ways to make your own version?

That's what happened to me when I stumbled across a post by My Husband Has Too Many Hobbies on making Christmas trees out of plastic silver spoons.  Such a simple, brilliant and beautiful holiday decoration on the cheap!

I headed to the Dollar Tree to pick up supplies and the ideas were swirling with possibilities of variations.

To make your own version(s), here's a list of supplies needed.  

• Styrofoam cone-shaped tree(s)
• Silver plastic spoons (I used 5 bags total to make two trees)
• Silver craft paint
• Foam or chip paint brush
• Glue gun
• Embellishments for tree topper(s)
• Glass candlestick
• Krylon Looking Glass spray paint

To make sure the white foam wouldn't show through, I painted the entire tree silver.

After cutting all the handles off the spoons, I began gluing them on the foam tree starting at the bottom and working my way up. {TIP: Save the handles if you want to make a second tree!}

I used a mercury glass knob I already had as the tree topper, securing it in place with a glob of glue.   

For my second tree, I found this German glass glitter cone at the dollar spot at Target. To add a little extra bling, I bought this package of miniature ornaments from Hobby Lobby. With my 40% off coupon, it was only $1.50!

I used the handles of the spoons for this tree layering them in sections to cover the broken tops. Lots of patience (and time) is required to glue on approximately 120 spoon handles! Once the glue was set, I added the silver ornaments randomly around the tree.

To hide all the tips of the spoon handles, I painted a bottle cap silver and glued to the top of the cone.  Then I attached a crystal knob I had leftover from another project.

These crystal candlesticks from the Dollar Store were perfect to add height to both trees.

After spraying on a coat of Krylon's Looking Glass paint, I glued the candlesticks to the base of the trees.

The mirrored effect sure makes these trees seem glamorous, don't you think?

I'm not quite ready to start decorating for Christmas...I want to enjoy one holiday at a time. But, these mirrored trees look so pretty on my mantel against the mirror they just might get to stay up.
