My latest project is restoring and restyling this antique Hepplewhite buffet. The bones of the buffet are amazing but the outdated paint and wallpaper needed to go stat.  Seriously, the 80's called and wanted that wallpaper back.

The wallpaper was already starting to peel off, which made my job a whole lot easier.

Even the insides of the drawers were covered.  Lucky for me, it wasn't adhered to the drawers so I was able to just slide it out.  Whew!

Using my orbital sander, I went to work on the top to remove all the paint and get it ready to stain.

I opted to sand off the wallpaper versus using a stripper or solvent.  Many, many pieces of sanding paper later, the beauty of the original wood emerged. With the wallpaper a distant memory, these drawers were ready for paint.

If possible, I try to use original hardware on all my restyled pieces.  I love the style of these pulls but the tarnished brass really dated them.  And frankly, they weren't all that pretty anymore.  

Using my favorite spray paint, I gave them a little makeover with Rustoleum Metallic Spray Paint in Flat Iron.

For the top, I chose my favorite gel stain, the One Coat Wonder, A.K.A.  General Finishes Java Gel.  I also used General Finishes Milk Paint in Driftwood for the base. 

A stained top and painted bottom is one of my all time favorite looks and my most requested finish.  If you're having trouble deciding how to restyle a piece of furniture, you really can't go wrong with this one.  See what I mean, isn't this stunning now?

No longer outdated and stuck in the 80's, this buffet is a statement piece and gorgeous in gray.  

Once again, the power of paint amazes me.  Can you even believe it's the same buffet?
