Easy DIY Decoupaged Metal Valentine Heart
/During the holidays, it never fails that I find something that inspires a crafty, DIY idea in the dollar spot at Target. If you haven't checked out their Valentine's Day selection, run to your nearest location and see all their goodies.
After seeing this red wooden heart, I got the perfect idea for a Valentine's Day craft. I decided to create a double layer of hearts and the corrugated metal heart I used on my Copper-Themed Anniversary Gift was perfect.
To decoupage the metal heart, I found some valentine napkins at the dollar store.
I removed the white layer of the napkin so only the printed side was left. Using a chip brush, I painted a thin layer of Mod Podge on the metal heart. Next, I gently laid the napkin on top of the metal heart and smoothed out the wrinkles. Once the bottom layer was dry, I applied a top layer of Mod Podge to seal the napkin for durability. Since this size napkin was a slightly larger than the heart, I used a nail file to trim off the excess once the Mod Podge was completely dry.
Using my hot glue gun, I attached the metal heart to the wood.
This was such an easy DIY Valentine's Day decoration! Now, I have a festive treat station set up in my kitchen.
I might rethink keeping those chocolate hearts within such easy reach but it sure looks pretty!
Wouldn't this decoupaged heart make lovely teacher gifts or class party crafts? There are so many creative ways to decoupage wooden or metal hearts so I'd love to see if you make one!
