On most of my furniture projects, I try, if at all possible, to re-use the original hardware. Usually, the manufacturer chose the perfect knobs or pulls for the piece and they're totally worth keeping. Other times, the hardware is just not pretty at all and needs an update.

Today, I'm focusing on how to EASILY update furniture and cabinet knobs, pulls or metal feet.

You know I love Java gel (a.k.a. The One Coat Wonder), right? Well, did you know that it can be used to 'paint' hardware?!!! Just one of the reasons this gel stain is so versatile!

These feet were from an antique drum table and were in pretty rough shape. I simply rubbed a little Java gel stain using a cloth on the middle one and they look brand new again.

I used the same technique with Java gel on these drawer pulls. The middle pull shows how sad the 'before' looked.

These handles were much too brassy and needed to be toned down just a bit. Java gel gave them a slightly aged appearance so they were classy and not brassy.

Another simple way to freshen up furniture hardware is with paint or glaze. These French Provincial handles needed a modern update to go with its all black makeover.

I brushed on two coats of General Finishes Pearl Effects in Argentine and then sealed with spray poly.

If you haven't tried Rub N Buff, this stuff is so easy and takes seconds to apply. It comes in a variety of colors and a little bit goes a long way. That small tube will last forever!
