I found this chair at my local ReStore and although I loved the style, the paint job not so much. Although it's hard to see in the picture, there were lots of cracks that needed to be repaired to do this makeover properly.

The existing painted surface was rough, bumpy with many drip marks. Using my orbital sander, I removed enough of the paint to create a smooth canvas for its coral makeover.

DecoArt had sent me a samples of their chalky finish paint in Vintage {mint} and Smitten {coral}. Both were beautiful colors but I ended up choosing Smitten for this project since I've never painted anything in the coral family. I'll be saving Vintage for something else for sure.

CHALKY FINISH PAINT IN VINTAGE & SMITTEN

I love mixing custom colors and after painting a sample board, I knew I wanted to add more of a pink undertone to Smitten. After playing around, I came up with the PERFECT CORAL for my chair.

I mixed a tiny amount of chalky finish in Romance to Smitten and created a beautiful, pinky coral. I'm naming this color FLUSH, since it's the product of the equation Romance + Smitten. To mix FLUSH yourself, the ratio of Smitten to Romance is 12:1.

After getting a coat of FLUSH, the back of the chair was ready for the Midas touch with this beautiful foil.

Did you know DecoArt has a new line of decoupage papers?! They sent me this beautiful paper from their Gold Trend collection and I knew I had to use it to glam-up this chair.

I applied the gold paper with DecoArt decoupage medium in matte to the front and back of the chair support. My trick to sanding off the excess paper was using a fingernail file since a sanding block wouldn't fit between the spindles.
