How to Turn a Bar Stool Into An Industrial Side Table

It all started while stopping at Kirklands.  After seeing this metal bar stool, I decided it would make a fabulous industrial side table for my son's bigger big boy room makeover. Except for a few pesky details.  The top was too small and the hole would allow things to fall through.

One of my projects from awhile back was converting a Lazy Susan to a side table.  I remembered seeing laminated pine rounds at Home Depot, which was a perfect top for a side table.  They come in various sizes and I chose the 18" diameter for my industrial table top.

Since this side table would be going in my son's room, it needed to compliment his new Restoration Hardware-style MCM Dresser. So, I chose the same stain colors as the drawer fronts: Minwax Classic Gray & Early American.

The first coat I applied was the Classic Gray and then a layer of Early American on top. Together, these colors make the perfect stained driftwood effect.

After applying a few coats of poly for the durability required in an 8-year-old's room, Triple Threat attached the wood top to the bar stool with screws.  This just might be the easiest DIY side table ever.

Using the bar stool as the base made it a great size for a bedside table. And the top isn't quite big that my son can store too much clutter on top!

I am really loving the layered stained top against the silver base.

We're debating adding a lower shelf on the leg rests.  Would you?

This bar stool converted to side table was such an easy and inexpensive way to add an industrial-style element to my son's room without spending a ton.

I'll be sharing the rest of his room once the entire makeover is complete so stay tuned for more projects.
