Upcycled Rotating Jewelry Organizer

With the start of the new year, I have organization on my mind.  There are a few areas of my home that need to be purged and organized.  I decided the best approach is to pick one area at a time and my first choice is the bathroom.

I am a jewelry girl and after hoarding (I mean collecting) lots of pieces over time, I've run out of space to store it.

After seeing this parts organizer at Harbor Freight, I know it was the perfect candidate for a jewelry sorter upcycle!

Since the turntable is enamel, the trays needed a lining so my jewelry wouldn't scratch the surface.  After finishing my DIY Gift Wrap Cart, I had plenty of gold-stripe paper left over, which was perfect for what I had in mind.

Using a soft gold spray paint, I gave all the parts a light coat.  Once dry, I sprayed an additional coat for extra coverage.

Next, I decoupaged the paper into all four trays using this method.

Now it was time for the fun part: assembling.  I say this with much sarcasm because there must have been a hundred screws, bolts and washers.

Instead of reading the instructions, we dove right in and started mounting all the separators inside the trays. Once completely finished, we realized we needed to install the rods and shafts first.  Let me tell you there was weeping and gnashing of teeth because we had to remove all the screws. bolts and washers. And then reinstall them all over again.  Lesson learned!  Read the manual first y'all!

You know that old saying, "A place for everything and everything in its place?"  Now I can say that is true for my jewelry stash.  I love having my bracelets, rings and earrings sorted and arranged in a pretty organizer.

Would you use one of these organizers for something other than jewelry?   I'd love to hear your ideas...leave a comment and let me know.

Now, to finish the rest of my bathroom.  Wish me luck!
